Description

Antique Holmes Edwards Inlaid Silver "Danish Princess" Pattern Flatware Set - 66 Pieces

Comes in a blue velvet-lined wood box.

The Holmes & Edwards Silver Co. was established in 1882, succeeding Rogers & Brittin. Initially, it produced low-cost plated flatware. A significant advancement came with William A. Warner's patents for inlaying sterling silver at wear points on utensils, which earned the company a gold medal at the 1893 Columbian Exposition. In 1898, the International Silver Company acquired the company, operating in Bridgeport until 1931 when it moved to Meriden. The "SILVER INLAID" trademark was changed to "HOLMES & EDWARDS DEEPSILVER" in 1956 and to "INTERNATIONAL DEEPSILVER" in 1960. Silver inlaid production ceased in 1972 and was later marketed by Wallace International Silversmiths Inc.

Descriptions are believed to be accurate but are not guaranteed. The photos are part of the description; always refer to them (and your eye) as the default description, as photos may show wear not mentioned in the written description. We do our best to describe and photograph the items in each lot to show any wear or defects; however, a perception of a "flaw" can vary from person to person. Thank you for looking!
